Dr. Rui Ferriani takes over as the director of FMRP

The deputy coordinator of INCT, Professor Doctor Rui Alberto Ferriani, is the new director of Ribeirão Preto Medical School (Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, FMRP), which is one of the most important medical schools in the country, for the 2020-2024 term.
According to Dr. Ferriani, the School’s management plan takes into account the maintenance of partnerships, since it will be essential for the growth and interactions of the FMRP. “We need to compromise to give back to society not only technical training but also the formation of conscious citizens, who are the core of a progressive and modern society,” he states.
The researcher also believes in the importance of inclusion and sustainability. “We should not forget to respect human rights, without any type of discrimination, by promoting inclusive policies, strengthening formative ethical aspects, and taking environmental sustainability actions,” he comments. “We’ll disseminate knowledge and provide accountability to society, similar to what is done in the INTC Hormones and Women’s Health, this is the style I want to implement in the Medical School,” he explains.
History in the area of human reproduction
Currently, Dr. Ferriani is full professor at FMRP, director of the Brazilian Society of Human Reproduction, and deputy coordinator of INCT Hormones and Women’s Health of CNPq. He has experience in the medical area, with emphasis on Human Reproduction, working mainly with topics such as: endometriosis, assisted reproduction, contraception, gynecological endocrinology, climacteric, infertility, and menopause. Before taking over as the Director of FMRP, he was the deputy director of the unit.
The specialist has also been a full professor at Universidade de São Paulo, chief of DGO Human Reproduction Department since 1988, an associate editor of Reproductive Science since 2015, a member of Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology and Infertility Committee International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO) since 2019, a representative of the World Endometriosis Society (WES) Board since 2017, the president of the CRM-SP Assisted Reproduction Technical Council, a member of the CRM-SP Assisted Reproduction Technical Council, and a member of Fertil Steril Open Editorial Board.
The new director of FMRP is also an effective member of four International Societies and four National Societies, and a reviewer of the main journals in the area of Gynecology and Human Reproduction.
The specialist has B.Sc., Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Medicine from FMRP, and a postdoctoral degree from University of Cambridge, England. He is specialist in assisted reproduction and chief of the Human Reproduction Department of Hospital das Clínicas of FMRP. Before taking over as the director of the teaching and research center, Dr. Ferriani was the deputy director of the unit.
