INCT Hormona is committed to the permanent involvement of its investigators in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities, including medical residency and graduate programs, capacity building, short courses and training activities, development of guidelines and clinical protocols, and incorporation of teaching and research recommendations by international organizations, government agencies, and civil society organizations into their models.
The Institute is also a partner in educational activities promoted by organizations such as the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, among others.
Some of the teaching activities carried out by INCT Hormona are listed below.
Training and Capacity Building
- Short-term trainee positions for life sciences graduates at assisted reproduction clinics in various Brazilian states, training these professionals to act as knowledge multipliers;
- Training in family planning for physicians from several Brazilian and foreign institutions, as well as courses on research methods;
- Medical Residency Program and yearlong Special Interest Training Program in Human Reproduction;
- Training on contraception in special scenarios for gynecologists and family physicians;
- Training on contraception for pediatricians.
Endofeminina
- Endofeminina, the annual Women’s Endocrinology Meeting, has become an important forum for debates on the field in Brazil and covers the main topics related to endocrine disorders in women. In 2020, the 17th meeting will be held.
Workshop on Hormones and Women’s Health
- Workshops held since 2009 cover topics such as endocrine gynecology, infertility, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, contraception, and perimenopause.
Institutional Contributions to Knowledge Transfer and Dissemination
- INCT Hormona investigators actively participate in the development of ethical and regulatory standards for assisted reproduction (AR), working jointly with organizations such as the Brazilian Federation of Societies of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Brazilian Society of Human Reproduction; follow relevant bills as they make their way through Congress; and follow up on regulations and ordinances issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Surveillance Agency.
- INCT Hormona representatives also participate in the development of guidelines by the Brazilian Medical Association and the Federal Board of Medicine;
- Reproductive endocrinology courses designed to train physicians, other clinicians, and embryologists throughout Latin America;
- Intensive courses on contraception, providing knowledge directly applicable to Public Health;
- Lectures and combined theoretical and practical workshops for laypersons and medical audiences (continuing medical education), addressing family planning (for doctors and laypersons) and STDs (for lay audiences only);
- Participation in providing input for recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO);
- Participation in educational activities promoted by the Brazilian Association of Endometriosis and Minimally Invasive Gynecology, such as the Endometriosis Awareness Campaign and the Aprendendo em Casa (Learning at Home) Project (http://www.sbendometriose.com.br/profissional/pdf/revista2.pdf).
Interactions with the Brazilian Ministry of Health
- Joint work with the STDs/AIDS department to develop family planning recommendations for women living with HIV/AIDS;
- Training of Unified Health System nurses.
