Endofeminina 2024 – 20 year contributing to women’s health

From March 22nd to 23rd, there was another edition of Endofeminina, which is considered one of the major national events related to women’s health. This time, the meeting reached a historical milestone of 20 editions, updating and innovating with new themes related to treatment and improvement in women’s quality of life.
Activities occurred in a hybrid way (both online and in-person), and symposia were held at Hotel Plaza São Rafael, in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
According to the general coordinator of INCT Hormona and president of the event, Dr. Poli Mara Spritzer, the goal of event, since its first edition, has been to disseminate advances in scientific knowledge in the area and to contribute to the increase in critical mass of health care professionals working in women’s endocrinology. “Our research inspiration is care to our patients”, she stated. In total, nine symposia were held, with 30 classes taught by great names in the area, all of them experienced in research and health care.
The subjects of these symposia were based on the results of recent studies and current topics related to daily routine of doctor’s offices. One of these symposia addressed Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and was supported by Asociación Latinoamericana de Endocrinología Ginecológica (ALEG).The debate updated participants about changes in intestinal microbiota, current evidence on clinical management, as well as assisted reproductive techniques and pregnancy care.
Another Special Session addressed women’s sexuality in the present world and was carried out in partnership with the Associação Brasileira de Estudos em Medicina e Saúde Sexual (ABEMSS). The lecturers focused on the relationship between appearance and mental health, including the use of hormones for esthetic purposes, without medical supervision.
Other topics discussed in the event included: dilemmas in infertility and assisted reproductive technologies, obese women, endocrinology in female adolescents, women in the menopausal and postmenopausal transition, osteoporosis, and transgenderism.
The symposium that closed the activities of Endofeminina had transgenderism as its main theme and focused on updating information on endocrine care to transgender people, including the definitions adopted in the ICD 11, which has entered into force since 2022. Dr. Spritzer mentioned terminologies such as gender incongruence, and that there are still barriers to accessing health systems.

Shortly after closure of activities, on March 23rd, all studies presented in Endofeminina were made available to participants in the event and to those who still wish to register to follow the content.
